Students from the University of Franca were returning from evening classes when their bus collided with a heavy truck near Nuporanga, in São Paulo state. Authorities reported that 12 passengers died at the scene and 21 others were transported to hospitals. Firefighters, police, and medical teams worked to reach those trapped in the damaged vehicles. Several survivors reportedly suffered serious injuries, and local hospitals activated emergency procedures to handle the influx of patients.
The university expressed profound sorrow and announced psychological support for affected families, students, and faculty. Alongside that response, investigators began examining road conditions, vehicle mechanics, driver actions, and evidence gathered at the scene. Officials said the truck driver remained under legal supervision while receiving medical treatment; no final determination of responsibility had been announced. For the grieving community, the investigation accompanies a more immediate task: supporting survivors and confronting the loss of people who never returned home.
